Faith Is Confidence in What We Hope for and Assurance About What We Do Not See Art
You can't explain Slip Row. Permit me rephrase that… You lot can explain it but yous can't empathize the depths of it until you walk through the streets. My mom went to Skid Row a couple years ago and I listened to the stories but it was not what I was expecting at all when I got there. Driving at that place I tried to prepare my listen and my centre for what I was going to encounter. As before long equally we were driving down the streets and got out and walked down Skid Row to church, I instantly shed tears. To meet that people really live on the sidewalk, that people struggle that much, just puts everything into perspective. Information technology makes me realize how much I take for granted. When I was a little kid and you didn't finish all my nutrient my parents said, "Finish that, in that location are starving people out there that would requite anything for that food." I've said that enough of times, "I get that mom, but I'm not them." People like me have then much in life that nosotros take for granted because we feel similar we deserve information technology. We don't deserve annihilation. Nosotros don't deserve the toll that Jesus paid on the cantankerous for us, and we don't deserve the dearest that he gives us just that'southward the beauty of information technology. We don't deserve it but he offers it to us, for free! Walking downward those streets actually inverse my mindset in everything. Witnessing people sleeping and peeing on the streets and digging in the garbage, because they don't have money to feed themselves is jarring. The crazy matter is Skid Row is merely blocks from downtown. I was mad that my air-mattress deflated when I was sleeping and I woke upward on the floor, then I run into people sleeping on the street because they take no selection. And they are broken and but lying there hopeless. I realized that nosotros get the opportunity to be a calorie-free in their lives and bring the promise to the hopeless. Reach out to those whom people only pass by, as Jesus did. We are God's tools to change the lives of people. People demand the gospel. So far this trip has made me realize that going out of my comfort zone to reach out to people and just show them love, God's beloved through us, is the all-time feeling I've e'er experienced. Nosotros get the adventure to share this beautiful gift that nosotros get from God that we don't fifty-fifty deserve. God is so good and he promises that no matter what happens, where he takes us, how hard and windy the road is, He is there holding our manus the whole way.

Excitement was in the air today at the start of twenty-four hour period number three here with Urban Project Los Angeles. It marked the first day that the students and staff got cleaved upwards into ministry building sites all beyond Los Angeles. Still, before we could jump into ministry building, we began with challenging anybody with our first two Athletes in Action Principles: Audience of I and Inside Game. After a few powerful talks from Mike Sylvester most compassion, the truth with dear, and being a devoted worshipper, we were able to exercise worshipping God in our sport through playing volleyball. Loving God and worshipping God is always intense and never passive, and and then to bring God into our sports, or for now volleyball, demands the same standards of intense passion to glorify our God. While simultaneously keeping u.s.a. awake after a long morning and teaching united states of america this principle, Lynne Schenk showed us that God'south love and grace can non only motivate u.s., but besides give united states of america self worth in a God that pursues us.
Afterwards existence fueled with these two Principles, nosotros were pumped to caput out to our ministry sites. WOW! How blessed I feel to be able to go to Ramona Gardens Recreation Center for the next three weeks! The hearts of the staff and the kids attending day military camp are so big and welcoming already on the kickoff solar day. I can imagine that the next few weeks will bring joy. It'southward encouraging to hear the stories of some of the kids and how Christ has been able to help their families overcome their hardships. Nosotros'll exist going on a prayer tour this evening, and I can't wait to soak in everything that the Lord has to offer through the staff, the students, and anybody at the ministry sites.

We are all so excited to be hither! Check out these videos to hear a fiddling bit more.
Ten days til I grab a flight to Los Angeles! Summertime flavor is upon u.s.a. and for me that means and finish of campus routine and the beginning of summer assignments. And also fourth dimension to get my blog up and rolling once more! And then much happens in the summer that a monthly newsletter hardly does it justice.
And so 10 days until Urban Projection-Los Angeles. Doug Gotcher, former AIA campus ministry president, said that more than history happens on a summer project than a quarter of schoolhouse. That history begins in 10 days, but in May ways has already started for the athletes and staff who will be in that location. For u.s. staff, nosotros began weekly phone conferences months ago, praying and planning. For athletes, stepping out in faith by applying and support raising. I'm excited for what God has in shop for all of the states.
I want to toss out a few prayer requests and also a manner to keep up with united states of america in LA. The projection has it'due south own weblog: http://upla.athletesinaction.org/Latest/Latest.html read upward on the projection and keep in touch with usa. Also be in prayer as funds are still needed for athletes to attend, travel safe, and for everything we will exist doing in LA.
Be a part of what Athletes in Action is doing at the Sochi Olympics through prayer. Visit this link.
This week I have been thinking a lot well-nigh what I have left to do this summer ministry wise. I think I am nigh caught upwards from being gone for the concluding month and after Colorado adjacent week, I will be spending August raising some more support. Information technology's astonishing how information technology tin can ebb and menses over a yr! Today, I was having a feeling I rarely have…a little flake of stress. I'm not the type to normally stress, simply at that place is something almost support raising that always concerns me a little bit. Of course I retrieve we tin all tend to be a footling sensitive when it comes to money. But as I was getting ready for bed tonight I began reading Matt Chandler's book explicit gospel and was reminded that I don't have to to the work and I'one thousand not the ane doing it. Of form so God reminded me I titled my web log by religion and with good reason. It reminded me that what I practise is by organized religion. I hope this encourages you lot too to live not past your own force, but his.

UKRIANE Tour GETS THEIR Hands DIRTY
At present to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we enquire or imagine, according to His ability that is at work inside usa, to Him be glory in the church building and in Jesus Christ throughout generations, forever and always.

Equally our time here in Kyiv is coming to an stop, we have really been coming together as a family. This cute iii story business firm we are staying in has been a blessing to us because the staff here serve united states but well-nigh every 60 minutes of the day. Whether information technology is washing our AIA gear, making us meals, and even letting us be our crazy, loud selves late at nighttime. They are and so hardworking and patient with our American lifestyle and luxuries. We say "spasybo" countless times throughout the day, which ways "give thanks you", simply that yet wouldn't cover how much they practice for united states. Then this morn we had the opportunity to serve them and the business firm we have been living in. This house is owed by Youth for Christ and they rent rooms to different ministries and mission groups which in turns finances their ministry here in Ukraine.
Luckily, today was perfect weather for some landscaping projects exterior! We got right to work with our gloves and mini brooms to get-go sweeping away the parking lot and drive-mode. Even though we were all a little tired, we yet had room to share stories and laughs while getting some work done. Information technology was such an astonishing group endeavor where we all felt like we were giving dorsum in such a small style to assist the staff here expand their influence to this community. During those 2 hours of hard work, we enjoyed every minute of getting to serve the Lord & making an impact for the future of this business firm and the people who get the pleasure to stay hither. This was one of the highlights of my trip hither because I know the Lord gives us spirtual gifts and talents, and serving others in any way is 1 of my favorite ways to show this truth of His. My teammates and I have been beyond loved here in this house, and nosotros are glad to be of any help to our hosts hither in Ukraine before we head back to America in a few days!

Lets talk about Ukrainian food. First thing that comes to mind is dill. Dill is on everything! On potatoes and rice, in soup, on egg dishes. Dill for days!
Oh and speaking of eggs, we get those every 24-hour interval besides. Eggs over easy is a breakfast staple, but they are a little weird because its like they are poached in oil. Breakfast is served with bread, bologna ham and cheese, oatmeal or some sort of French toast or pancake. The oatmeal is also a footling unlike considering it is cooked in milk and is sweet. Needless to say it was a lilliputian crude on my lactose intolerant stomach.
Below are pics of a usual luncheon or dinner. Always some sort of chicken, potatoes or rice, vegetables, and soup. Now I like a good soup but when information technology's eighty* and super boiling, I really don't sympathize hot soup, though information technology was really good. And the egg fried chicken was skilful the start twenty-four hours, but now I call back about of united states would be happy to never eat some other egg ever.
In fact, nosotros ate this again tonight for dinner, just with a different salad. Y'all might besides notice how greasy the nutrient looks too and well it is.
At present permit'southward talk about fast food. McDonald's as I've said earlier is fancy and popular, but not the merely option for a quick meal. I really like the local places. They are cafeteria style and you lot pay per plate. Food options were similar to what we were eating at our hotel with a few variations. A few favorites that stand out to me. One was meat wrapped in a pancake. Btw pancakes are crepe like and flat. The other was a stack of pancakes stacked an cut like a slice of pie layered with a creamy dill sauce. Information technology was really practiced with my fish. Likewise like well-nigh European countries, at that place is ice cream stands everywhere.
The food experience has been interesting and I'k looking forward to heading home to detox and render to my low fat vegetarian lifestyle. 😃
